So, the obvious question most people have to artists is, "why the hell would you do that for a living? It is a difficult life of no guaranteed income, and expensive investment." The answer for me is simple. I have a need to express the true uncensored convictions I have to the world. Maybe the world will become a better place for it. I listen to all kinds of artists, many of whom I think neither look good, nor sing lyrics I necessarily agree with. Yet, it really doesn't matter to me for a number of reasons. First of all, music can sound excellent without a great looking band or great lyrical content. Secondly, there is an intrinsic importance in honest social debate and expression in the form of art and music, whether I agree with it or not. It is healthy for society, and for the people who make it. That is what counts to me. So, when anyone says to me, "oh you are just a shock rock artist wearing dresses and screeching about the social ills of the patriarchy," I simply laugh and say yeah right sure. I live what I sing. I always have and I always will. To question the authenticity of my convictions is to question every ounce of known reality. You don't have to agree with me to at least give me credit for being the real deal. Some artists do not live what they sing. I am not one of them.
